“Involving the public through piquing their interest in the arts is needed for developing a multifaceted, urban arts culture.”— Kimberly Watson
My carving is a confluence of shapes I saw in the rock. I love polarities. I wanted a stone to look light. Rocks don’t budge, but I wanted movement. Stone looks dry, but I wanted a polished waterfall. Technical difficulties arose, but I’m happy with the way it turned out. For a brief time in Halifax, a utopian carving circle formed. I hope others will be able to experience this feeling and this friendship.
“Confluence” will be installed on the Halifax Waterfront soon.
Kimberly is a graduate of NSCAD University. She has a keen interest in public art and making the artist’s creative process accessible to the public.
