“Everything I work with is a gift of geological time.” –Mark Herrington
In my work, I try to connect geological time with human time. The people I met at the Black Cultural Centre liked my approach and shared their ideas with me. In my stones, I saw textured layers and tightly woven strands of history, community, and aspiration. With three different finishes, my sculpture expresses resilience, pride of place, and an invitation based on openness and warmth.
“Embrace” is located at the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia in Cherry Brook, N.S.
Mark Herrington sculpts and teaches in Franklin, a historic coastal community near Ellsworth, Maine. He is a lifelong student of the creative process, and loves introducing new artists to sculpting granite as much as he loves practicing his own work.
