“I love the idea of leaving something beautiful behind. A marker in the shifting sands of time.” – Marc Graff

This sculptural seat represents a “back to your roots” theme for a community garden. My idea is a helping hand, a pat on the back, a hand up or a hand out when you’re down – moments when people help other people. My sculpture pleases the eye, but I’m happier that it feels comforting and safe in the palm of Grandfather’s Hand.

“Grandfather’s Hand” is located behind the Mount Hope Building site at 300 Pleasant Street, Dartmouth.

Marc Graff is a semi-retired entrepreneur and stonemason from Concession in the Municipality of Clare. A visit to Sculpture Saint John in 2014 caught his imagination, and he was excited to develop his carving techniques in a symposium setting.
